"The Safiya began in Arizona, in the red rock country of the Navajo Nation.

I'd been travelling through the Southwest when I found myself staying with a local Navajo village — sharing food, listening to stories, learning about a culture that has woven meaning into fabric and pattern for centuries. The generosity of the people I met there stayed with me long after I left.

The colours came directly from the landscape around me. That particular red — not quite rust, not quite terracotta — is the exact shade of the rock formations at sunset. The sand tones are the desert floor in the early morning. The deep earthy brown is the shadow inside a canyon wall.

The jacquard motifs were inspired by the rock carvings I saw throughout the region — ancient marks made by human hands, geometric and deliberate, telling stories in a language of shape and line. I photographed hundreds of them and spent months distilling them into a pattern that felt like a memory rather than a copy.

The Safiya is not a replica of Navajo craft — it is a piece that carries the feeling of that journey. The stillness of the desert. The warmth of people who shared their world with a stranger. The sense that some places leave something in you that never quite leaves back".
